Template Monster, a provider of website templates, has started with still one more educational project: FlashPerfection.com. The new projects contains lots of materials on one of the most powerful technologies of nowadays - Flash technology.
Flash became really popular and is used with every media project no matter what it is: station breaks, ads, product presentations, website intros or usual websites. The strong positions this technology has overwhelmed ended up with an enormous interest to it. Many developers from different industries started to implement it with their production activity. What seems to be a problem is the absence of good and useful materials on how to master the technology. Though there are lots of sites with some materials on Flash there's still no uniting place to map all of them. Anyone who is interested has to jump between several sites seeking for the information needed.

Flash Perfection is really different. The resource is to locate most of the materials on Flash available on the Web. Though the materials were not originally written by Flash Perfection staff but they were thoroughly reviewed before publishing so to stay with quality and really useful ones. Currently, there are about 250 materials with 19 categories such as Action Scripts, Animation, Special Effects and Text Special Effects, etc.

"With Flash Perfection we rely greatly on Flash developers' community. It's a self-supportive project which means that regular staff of Flash Perfection is to fulfill editorial functions only," says Gary Nichols, head of marketing at Template Monster. "If you are an experienced user of Flash and want to share your experience - Flash Perfection is the right place for it. Though we've just started we expect it to be a really popular Flash resource in the future due to its openness and self-descriptiveness."

Template Monster tends to follow educational direction more than commercial recently which can be explained with its will to build really open and long lasting relationships with the community of Template Monster's customers.

Flash is one of those things that can make or break a site depending on how its done.

Here are some summary facts about Flash that one should consider before using it.

Bad flash no matter how you stack it is bad flash.... lots of sites have flash for the sake of having it and its not always the best idea if its poorly designed.

Flash does not index well in search engines (well, partly true) Flash CAN index in search engines but not always and the reasons are generally simple. It has to do with the nature of the links code in the flash and the type of link. More on this in a later post.

Flash reloads with every page reload, beating up the band width, again, somewhat true but not the whole picture. Flash is an embedded object in the HTML and loads each time from cache once its loaded with most browsers EXCEPT IE. There is a little code snippt that you can use to reduce the load issue in IE (which has problems with image caching)

HTACCESS file contents

#Put this in your HTACCESS file to stop screen flicker in IE
BrowserMatch "MSIE" brokenvary=1
BrowserMatch "Mozilla/4.[0-9]{2}" brokenvary=1
BrowserMatch "Opera" !brokenvary
SetEnvIf brokenvary 1 force-no-vary

ExpiresActive On
ExpiresDefault A18000
ExpiresByType image/gif A2592000
ExpiresByType image/jpeg A2592000
ExpiresByType image/png A2592000

Real good flash can be expensive if you are not the designer. A clients site we finished recently had flash done by Billy Busey and cost nearly $3,000 for the header alone. The learning curve is what keeps most designers out of the flash market because in order to do flash well you have to spend a great deal of time getting it right so not to repeat bad practices later.

I'm not even sure if this goes here but I need serious help before I toss my computer off a tall building! I recently purchased ANIM FX 3.3. It's a very cool program but getting it into my site is just not happeneing! It's driving me completly Batty!

Ok so here's the deal I sure hope someone can help.......When you save your animation it saves 2 files an swf file and a text file and it also genrates a HTML code for the actual animation....No big deal right?! Wrong! The tutorails all make it sounds as easy as pie except I can't figure it out STILL!!!

I am using Yahoo sitebuilder. The tutorail says I should copy and paste the swf file and the text file and copy it to the root of my web page...where the heck is that???!!!! So when I thought I found where it goes I right click and copy and then go into the HTML box that Yahoo so nicely provides to make things easier and it shows nothing!

So I can get all the way to having a nice HUGE black empty box on my screen and nothing else!!! The guy that's suppose to offer support keeps telling me to read the darn tutorail again I must have tried to follow it 65X's already....help it's really bothering me!!!

Thanks in advance

Alright.

I am currently making a button for my personal experiment site. (I'll show you guys it once I'm further along). Anywho, I want an animation upon scrollover, coding this is no problem, its the designing of the effect that I have questions upon.

Normally, I do not use Flash, I stick to static images in PS, but I find that this effect is essential to the coolness factor of my navagation.

So here we go:

1. If I specifically call upon a color (using hex #'s) will it appear the correct color? I have had problems in the past with different applications making different colors... well different colors. I'm sick of telling an application to have a ###### background and then when I put the image on my page with a ###### background, there is difference.

well now that I think about it that is my main concern for the moment, so I don't know why i started numbering... haha...

Anyways, replies are appreciated.

Hi, I am a php coder at heart but want a nice front to my site. I have a .fla with a GREAT design. But when i go to edit the text, all i get is a weird zoomed up image?. Can someone with a bit of experience tell me how. I have messed around with flash for about a week and am able to use links, delete the text above (it registers as a graphic) and know some basic actionscript. I have to start somewhere

I'd like to have a more customized scrollbar, but I can't get another scrollbar to work with the component. Right now the scrollbar will only move the textbox up... it won't scroll the text inside. I don't know how to reference the text the textbox to get it to scroll...
Howdy,
I am embarking on a flash project (my first) I am required to provide a map of sorts and allow the user to add nodes to the map. The node is just a little picture with a class attached to it with a couple of details about that instance.
Now I already have this semi working - I can dynamically add nodes (using attachMovieClip) which keep their own state information. And I can also drag them around the screen.
My problem arises because I want to also be able to drag the map around the screen. To ensure the nodes get moved with the map I AttachMovie the nodes to the map movie clip. I then make the map draggable and it works - the nodes get dragged around with the map however I now can't drag the nodes within the map - when I click on a node and drag it just drags the whole map.

When I say "make draggable" all I am doing is attaching a class to the movieclip definition that I nabbed from a tutorial somewhere:

class Drag extends MovieClip
{
var StaffName:String;
function Drag(){
onPress=doDrag;
onRelease=doDrop;
}
private function doDrag():Void{
this.startDrag();
}
private function doDrop():Void{
this.stopDrag();
}
}

I anyone has any suggestions on where I am going wrong or they can point to a specific tutorial that would be helpful. I would appreciate it muchly :cool:

Since I'm a newbie on flash, I have a problem in delaying the action when a button is pressed. If you could hint me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it!

This is what I've tried (as a button action) - with no delay happening:

on (release) {

APause = setInterval(GoBack, 2300);
//calls a function called GoBack every 2.3 seconds//
function GoBack() {
clearInterval(APause);
//removes the APause, now it won't happening again//
//whatever delayed action you want//
}
//so this is what I want executed, but after a short delay:
gotoAndStop("Scene 1", 2)

}
