Ordering musql data

Now I know how to query a database and put it into array and I also know how to order it by one of the column headers...but how do i for example order it ascending/descending etc?

for instance your making a user database and you want to display every body under 17 then your query would be sommat like

[PHP]SELECT * FROM users WHERE bday < 1987; [/PHP]

also can replace 'asc' with 'desc' for decending
