Project?

What would some of you think if we came up with some kind of big and hopefully creative and innovative site?

I think there is enough talent here to create a great site.

I don't have any idea what kind of site this would be because I want to to be something from scratch and a collaboration of our ideas.

If I can get enough people interested I will set up a forum as soon as possible so we can discuss ideas and brainstorm.

I'll try to set something up tomarrow if the pattern continues.

ANd the idea of zen garden... CSS Zen Garden I assume?

Maybe a combo of those 2 ideas?

I love the zen garden and I love to make pure CSS designs and stuff... so maybe make a webmaster resource site, but make it a pretty CSS thing, like the zen garden and maybe even have many designs for the site which you can change with a simple drop-down menu...
(if you don't understand, go to http://www.kaziaz.com/smf and look at the top right, under the date.. 'Change Color:"... like that maybe - but with lots of super-pretty css-zen-garden type designs...


And as for a Project Forum, since Python is so amazingly handsom and its a DevDreams Project, maybe Python can make us our own category here (with forums like Updates, Ideas, etc)?

So you can look at what we make and critique it.
Maybe you could start learning HTML, CSS, etc now that you joined here - or maybe even photoshop, flash or fireworks? :P
It's not so hard. Look at www.w3schools.com for HTML and CSS help.

I'd like to do a whole knew forum not directly on DD... but if the majority prefers that. Then thats ok too. Or at least make them private to a certain group.

Maybe make it so only the group can post, but anyone can see?
It would be easier for me to have it here - I go to my bookmarked sites using a key command, and it only does 9 bookmarks, I already have more than that, so it cant be on a new site. :P

Sure. We need a category called "The Project" with forums somewhat like these: Updates, Ideas, Content and Discussion.
We then need a usergroup of the people involved, and only those people can post in Updates, Ideas and Content. Anyone can view what is in those and post in Discussion.

So, really... to get this thing started, whats the best way to make a site with different sections, work with multiple designs?
Do you have each part as a separate file and use php include ?
Or do you just do it like normal, but make each css style sheet use the same stuff, so that the only differences are the colors, etc...
(for example, one style sheet could be:
x123.div {
stuff in here - this would change...
}

and another would be:
x123.div {
different stuff in here, but the x123 bit stays the same
so that when you make a div with the class="x123"...
}

does that make sense?)

And, really, if you can work out how to save a bookmark, you are probably intelligent enough to learn HTML and CSS... AT least have a look at www.w3schools.com

(Yes, I know that most people can save a bookmark with their eyes closed... that was my point. )

The best way to go would be using a CMS.

If I remember correctly Martian is pretty good at PHP if he comes on the team maybe he could code something. Or I have a friend that could do it possibly. And if both of those fall through we can go with a premade one.

SO basically very advanced includes.
