whats is dedicated hosting?

could someone plz explain to me what dedicatde hosting is.

because i thought that it was just hosting which was on a secure connection - much secure than standard. is this true?

dedicated hosting is where you have your own server..you can run it, or it can be managed where it is being hosted...usually unless you plan on being a host yourself you do not need this...however in some cases one does...just depends on what the person wants/needs to do
