kazaa loses in court

tonytony ModeratorAdministrator
well kazaa was taken to court and they lost, they were ordered to update their systems so it gets rid of all copyright material, however they have decided to appeal and so this looks like another court case that will take years before it actually gets anywhere significant, doesnt look like you need to worry about downloading your britney spears for the time being

    YAY!
Sharman Networks (who are supposed to own KaZaA) finally got what they deserved.
The only P2P software I'd prefer them not to take to court is BitTorrent, simply because it was designed for legitimate use and many companies such as Mandriva (formerly Mandrake) use it to distrobute their products.
If P2P developers kept their networks clear of illegal content, they wouldn't be facing legal battles, and charging for software designed to download pirated software is even more immoral than free P2P systems since you're charging someone for the ability to steal from someone else... which sucks.
I kinda respect Napster for how they have changed from the daddy of illegal file sharing into a respected and law abiding P2P music company.
KaZaA has always tried to worm out of legal rows by stating that none of the files were stored on their servers, but the simple fact is that KaZaA was developed for the sole purpose of distrobuting such files.
Apps like BitTorrent don't have any central servers and were designed for legal use, but were hijacked by cheap, tight fisted losers.

the internet was designed for free use to anyone and everyone - therefore there shouldnt be an restrictions...in my mind anyway, im sure at some point weve all done something illegal

Without restrictions, the Internet would be full of more usless and offencive crap than it is now.
Even with regulation we have problems with terrorist websites, porn and such, so what do you think it'd be like if there was nobody to stop such content from showing up?
Some things I do agree with and some I don't.
I agree with laws against terror websites and stuff that promotes harm, but I do think we should have the right to surf the web without feeling like everthing we do is being monitored.
Even you have to agree that anti-spam laws are pretty close to being a gift from the heavens :/
