"The demand for internet domain names specifically used for mobile phones is expected to reach fever pitch next week (Tuesday, Sept. 26th) when registration is opened up to the public. Nearly 13,000 trademarked websites have already been registered by companies over the past four months."

My take? I don't plan to register any but if you site is catered to the Mobile device market, it might work. I have no products/sites for Mobile devices.

What's yout take? Flop or fame?

It'll probably be a flop and will have very few sites with actually good content. Affiliate marketers will be sure to pick a lot of these up.

I have a few ideas, I may get a couple. Any word of prices?

I don't see much point unless you're making a site to be used through a mobile phone, and even then, most sites use site.com/mobile or mobile.site.com instead to save costs.
I'm betting most of those who have already bought into .mobi own those annoying ring tone sites.

That's true Tony, there will be an initial rush as all the valuable ".Mobi's" like poker, mortgage, loan, bank, sex, porn, etc, will be snapped up. Then it will be slow I think.

Moby should buy one so he could have his name twice... If you imagine it done by someone who can't spell a word the same way twice that is.
As for this going the same way as .info, you're probably right, but even that isn't a fate worse than .xxx, the TLD designed for adult content despite the fact that TLD's for specific types of sites is a concept so old that many people online have no idea that there ever was a distinction between .com and .net other than what sounds cooler.
