My take? I don't plan to register any but if you site is catered to the Mobile device market, it might work. I have no products/sites for Mobile devices.

That's true Tony, there will be an initial rush as all the valuable ".Mobi's" like poker, mortgage, loan, bank, sex, porn, etc, will be snapped up. Then it will be slow I think.
As for this going the same way as .info, you're probably right, but even that isn't a fate worse than .xxx, the TLD designed for adult content despite the fact that TLD's for specific types of sites is a concept so old that many people online have no idea that there ever was a distinction between .com and .net other than what sounds cooler.
