i thought it would be good to inform you where you can buy cheap mobi domains, at least it's what i found cheapest.. http://www.whiz.in/ 9.09 $

but you need to reg for 2 years

i have got a 3 letter, just for the same reasons as you said.
maybee it is nothing, but maybee they take of.

hmm dunno DeluxeNames, maybe you have a good point there, i hope it's still in the future though.

Registerdub is another pretty cheap registrar, for $9.25 a year for 2 years you can register a .mobi. I think .mobi will have a much greater chance for success with all the support of corporations like google, microsoft, and vodafone.

What are the contract details? Are you able to cut the agreed term short and transfer to an alternate registrar or another account?
