If I would have knows about this ahead of time, I would have went for sure
1,200 of us Jones's got together in Cardiff, Wales, to set a new world record!
(Guinness Book of World Records)
Jones is the most common surname in Wales (WhooHoo!) and is Britain's second-most common, after Smith. It is the fourth most common in the United States (after Smith, Johnson and Williams) and is believed to be the 5th most common name in the world.
It is the most common surname in Wales and in previous generations was so ubiquitous in the small valley communities that locals had to be distinguished by their their trade or profession such as "Jones the baker" or "Jones the butcher."
This just goes to show you how fertile the Welsh are. For a tiny country to produce the 5th most common name in the world is just amazing and makes me proud to be a Jones.
Any Smith's out there?
