Let's Get Serious.

Ok i may have posted this before....

I want to create a gaming site.
Yeah I've said it a million times. But I'm really serious about it now.
I mean i want to buy a vBulletin license and assemble a group of writers and other team members that will get paid...not with ad space but with money. The site will have coverage of all kinds of games from sims to action games. from atari to xbox. it will be THE alternative to big gaming sites such as gamespy,IGN,etc.

I can provide the hosting and pay for some of the vB license. But i will need some people to chip in for the rest of the license.
What ever percentage of the license you pay for will be the percentage of the revenue you will recieve from the site.

I'm looking for people interested in a long commitment to this.

Please email me:

To add on to and translate some of what Rallyfan said:
Video game websites like IGN and Gamespot are spoon-fed by game developers. They get tons of free stuff, like games--some before they're even released to the public.

But you'll just be a normal gaming site (to start), you can't compete with them right off the bat, you won't have the user-base or the traffic. Now, that means that you'll have to go to each of the developers websties, ask for some screenshots that you are able to use on your website, and ask for the ability to copy some information and pictures, and you want to ask them if you can be put on their press release list, which will mean that they'll keep sending you this stuff. You're not quite spoon-fed yet. But it's a start.

You want to get lots of juicy keyword-rich content, and you want to get a staff of at least 5 people, which cover Xbox Gamecube and PS2. They should be willing to rent the games out of their own pockets. You need weekly updates, and usually other people are a little less motivated than you (I know this one from experience) and will not even write more than a paragraph, so you have to be careful who you recruit for the website.

Optimize the hell out of it, get lots of content, put up forums, and you NEED (NO MATTER WHAT) a cheats section on the website--that'll be a good traffic driver. If you don't know where to get cheats, you can go to the major cheats websites (http://www.cheatcc.com, http://www.gamewinners.com, http://www.chaptercheats.com, and well--you can just go to all of the pages listed at http://www.captaincode.com which will let you get ALL of the cheats from the websites) and take and reword their cheats--it's quite time consuming. It's also a very hard task in some cases, because you need to reword stuff that's quite incomprehensible. Of course, after you hit a certain point, you can run the cheats section entirely out of thigns sent by developers and by the submissions of visitors.

Now you'll be quite a hefty website. Once you hit the 60,000 pageviews per month point, you should be able to go to video game developers asking if you can score some free games--you should word it well.

You'll get bigger and bigger, and get more and more free stuff.

Starting's the hardest point, and you're at a good start.

Yes, I do have a bit of experience and knowledge under my feet--but have never been as ambitious as you're showing yourself to be.

I'd join your staff were it not for the costs, as I currently don't really have much money. Good luck with your website, and I hope that I've atleast given you a stair to step on, on your way to the top. :)

i will help you for as much time as i can and what tnt hust said is correct and if you make it like that it will be the ultimate gaming website! start making templates and not crapy ones use various skills such as css and php and java there are loads to use and dont buy a template.

i've just thought why should you buy a template when we can help!!!!!

guys if we put all our knowledge of webmaster into one well we could make a template for fourtone87. just think 1hr to help make our mates a template. an hr each just give each person something to do.

    who is up for it!!!

come on guys it will be fun and usefull and its a lot better than just posting messages on about 4 different forums regarding the same issues.
for the sake of old times!

    :)

Hmmm... is this owned or licensed.... what currency?
How would I be able to send it?
    Where?
How much to be payed minimum?
I may or may not be able to chip some money in.

We all need to be able to automatically add reviews and stuff (though if anyone wants editing, I'm pretty good grammer and spelking at.

I like the domain name and want to be part of this. I can help on imagery design and CSS, not to mention articles. But I only have Xbox, NES and SNES with only about ..32 SNES games and maybe 10 or 15 NES games. Well, it's some help.

I want to be able to possibly have a bi-weekly show of some sort. Maybe using Flash or 3D studio or something (could probably ask Bungie for the Halo models for usage in it). But don't know if the hosting would be good enough to support it. Maybe once the site's self-sustaining for money.

I also have the domain name Player4.com whether or not that would be useful. I got it because it has good brandability IMO.

IF we have enough people that want to help out we'll just go with the owned vB
if its only you me and rally. we can just go with the leased.(i pay $45...each of you $20?negotiable)

    Where to send it...
if you feel safe sending a check through the mail that would be best. If not we can figure something out.

Where...We'll figure it out once we can get a plan set up.

How much of a minimum....around $20 maybe less

If we go ahead with this, i will upgrade my hosting to an adiquate amount.

Im fine with using my domain or yours(player4 is a very brandable name)

We can use your older counsels to our advantage...a old school section!(just a though)

could you explain this in more depth...i dont quite understand.

i hope i cleared some stuff up. Lets keep on with this idea ok guys?

Okay, never have a light fixture fall and break on your head. It doesn't hurt but it's too damn much work to clean up. That's the second light fixture that's been broken--the first one cut into my big toe requiring stitches--but that was 9 years ago.

I don't know how to send a check through the mail (never done it before, never had a reason to) but I'll find out, if I'm even able to with my type of bank account.

Here's my idea: GamingFury for the website, maybe Player4 as a newsletter or something like that. Just have it as a part of GF.

Okay the part about the show: Let's Gamepot, is Gamespot's online tv-ish thing. I don't think there's any other ones besides that one. But hey, we don't need to do that. If we do do that, we may need to use flash or 3d studio max so we don't need actual video of ourselves, cause getting the staff in the same room to film it would be kinda hard to do. And it'd have to be after a while that this was done so we could have the site self-sustaining enough for us to get hosting that can handle the load and bandwidth suckage of the videos. Understand now?

I'm thinking a magazine-style logo. Maybe even design.

Once the staff's all recruited we can probably set up some small forum or something at planning.gamingfury.com (bare bones, no images, just names, posts, and different threads, no profiles or anything fancy. we may need to edit a comments script) so that we can plan the website.

i cant really help with funding or anything liek that
gaming isnt really my thing anymore, althogh i do like things like AOE and champ manager

but anyway yea if you need help with html, php i may be able to lend a hand and i dont expect anything back in return, im just helping out of the goodness of my heart...if you need it anyway if not no problem
  • pfgannonpfgannon Moderator Administrator
well im sure theres other ways to send money...we'll figure it out. :)
I like the newsletter thing(good idea!)
I have set up a forum at planning.gamingfury.com
stop by if you are interested in being part of the staff.

Also...should I let other forums know of the site to see if we can get more people to join the team?

    Thanks Tony!
Maybe you could work on the theme?
Or creating a module or two for vB?
