Oracle Introduces Second Brazilian Cloud Region in Vinhedo

By Nishit Raghuwanshi - May 17, 2021

Oracle has announced the opening of their Vinhedo Cloud region in Brazil to extend support to growing customer demand. This comes after the launch of the Sao Paulo Cloud region in 2020 that made Brazil Oracle’s latest country to provide dual cloud regions.

The Vinhedo Cloud Region’s opening registers the 30th cloud region of Oracle globally. It is a part of Oracle’s strategy to operate 38 Cloud regions by 2021 end. Global pandemic COVID-19 has contributed to the acceleration of digital transformation efforts in Brazil. Oracle is also working in collaboration with an organization in Brazil to help them in moving the cloud securely and without hampering any data sovereignty regulations.

Oracle will continue making some important investments in Brazil to support the rapidly increasing number of partners and customers. This news came as a follow up of the recent announcement by Microsoft and Oracle regarding the expansion of their cloud interoperability partnership so that both of them can help customers globally. The strategically chosen interconnect location in Brazil states that enterprises can build workloads that smoothly interoperate between Microsoft and Oracle cloud region on Brazil.

“Part of our strategy has been to build a true disaster recovery solution with two regions to help our customers bring their most critical workloads to Oracle Cloud. With the Vinhedo Cloud region, customers across South and Latin America are able to move to the cloud faster and build resilient workloads,” said Scott Twaddle, vice president, product, industries and partnerships, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
The new cloud region will provide Oracle Cloud Infrastructure services consisting of Oracle Cloud Application services, Oracle Autonomous Database, Oracle Container for Kubernetes, and Oracle Cloud VMware solution. It will also offer various advantages to customers, specifically to those who are related to highly regulated industries with restrictions on servers outside the national territory.

Oracle has a unique dual-region strategy that allows customers to deploy resilient applications in multiple geographically separated locations for the purpose of disaster recovery and compliance requirements without the need to transfer sensitive data from the country. Oracle can be addressed as one of the few cloud providers with dual cloud regions in Brazil, allowing the organizations to run their mission-critical workloads in Oracle Cloud.

Vice President’s Take

Vice President at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for product, industries, and partnerships, Scott Twaddle, said that the company is thrilled to start the journey of the Vinhedo Cloud region as the second region in Brazil as it a part of the strategy that has been built as a true disaster recovery solution with two regions to help the customers in moving their highly critical workloads to Oracle Cloud. He concluded by saying that with the Vinhedo Cloud Region, customers in Latin and South America can move to the cloud at a faster pace and build resilient workloads that fulfill the data sovereignty requirements and keep the data and metadata of the organizations within the borders.

Oracle Cloud Region Global Expansion
In 2020, Oracle launched 12 Cloud Regions and as per the current stats, the company is running 30 regions on a global level, out of which, 23 are commercial, 7 are government focused, and various regions are dedicated to US intelligence services. It can be quoted as one of the fastest expansions by any popular cloud provider.

Oracle is also planning to build a minimum of two regions in every country where the company is operations so that it can help the customers in building true business continuity and disaster protection while meeting in-country data residence requirements. Countries like the US, South Korea, Brazil, Japan, India, Australia, the UK, and Europe already have two cloud regions. Upcoming Oracle Cloud Regions comprise the second region in Saudi Arabia and UAE, additional regions in France, Sweden, and Italy along with new regions in Israel, Singapore, and South Africa.
