Vbulletin Convert

What would you all say if I said I was interested in converting this forum to vbulletin?

Because I am thinking about it seriously.

I know vbulletin is expensive thats why im asking for a little hand to cover the costs...

If you wish to help the funding of it feel free to give a small donation via paypal. I dont expect much and I wouldnt want you giving all your money away.. Its just I think this community would benefit more with a vbulletin forum instead of phpbb.

Firstly though answer the vote...Should it be done?

Also post all your thoughts on the issue.

Well, VB does have tons of cool features, but do you really need them?

Is this part of the redesign of the site?

ivoted no, i think what you have now is good enough
maybe in the future when you have more users and earning more revenue it could be a possibility for you to upgrade, but until i think this is working well

I disagree.

If you inplemented VB, it would allow the site to grow, in lue of any upgrades you might like to make in the future.

Plus I prefer using it.

Also I phpBB's bad for bandwidth (Or so I've heard) and not as secure.

Are you shooting for the leased or pwned license?

I think the top two forum programs around are vBulletin and phpBB. They are both very good.

I voted "yes" to change to vBulletin. The reason is that a program like vB, since it is purchased and not free, reflects upon the professionalism of a site. Though some may disagree, when a site has a free host, or free this or that, it is not usually considered as professional as one with a regular host using non-free programs.

Question: For those that help financially with this endeavor, will you offer some reciprocation like advertising?

Anyone care to explain the difference between phpPP and vBulletin? All I've gathered from the above is that one is free while the other needs a purchased license.

One of the largest differences: vBulliten's more SE-friendly, offering archives for search engines which increase your search rank. Also, vBulliten's more professional, which is often the case for something which you have to pay for vs a free thing.

InvisionPowerBoard is pretty good, too.

Both of them looks equally good - I don't see why one should spend money to prove that a site is more professional. Professionalism is not about spending. Professionalism is about the way the site is run - which I think Dev Dreams is doing just fine.



So I'll vote for phpBB.

because of the response ive had from this forum and a couple other I have decided to go ahead with it. I am going to purchase a 1 year licence some time today.

well as you can see ive done the conversion to vb. It looks a bit plain at the moment but Im trying to get a skin sorted out soon.

Hopefully within the next couple of days I will add some hacks and extra features to make it that much better.
