Having trouble wit actionscript

alright this is kinda pissing me off a lil. ok i was making a preloader using this tutorial http://www.actionscripts.org/tutorials/beginner/Smooth_PreLoader/index.shtml
this is one i found that was easier

but out of both of these i got this error

alright so i know this is pretty much self explanitory but how the hell do i add that actionscript to a movie instance? im lost. do i go into edit mode for the MC and add the script there or where? im lost to were i need to add it. thanx, btw im using Flash MX 2k4 Pro.

what I usually do is create a new layer and name it actionscript. then any action script which has anything to do with controlling the movies(such as preloading, playing, pausing or whatever can be placed in there away from the rest

yeah i know but i think this actionscript needs to be put into the mc instance.i usually put my actions on different layers too. can someone try out that "tutorial" and tell me how to add actionscript to an instance?
