another good idea is to offer people rewards for reaching posts this seems to work also but only down side is that you need to watch out for those usallys posts that people make to recive a higher post count :eek:
i guess the only way is to pour in $$$ into competitions and stuff for a while - until you get a group of steady/loyal members who actually like the place
depends on members and how busy your forums are at the minute to start with say for every 30posts a month then as you get busier go to 50
just make it so they would have to come most days and post 1 or 2 atleast in order to get free hosting then once more people join it will be easier for them to post that many so you can raise the bar a little and get them posting more...then when they least expect it wham!!! take away the free hosting mwahahahaha
rather than do the 1st 5 people to register offer it on a basis that they contribute towards the forum? (in terms of posting) so say 5 posts a month gets a link and 10 posts a month gets hosting, 15 a month gets both or perhaps a few more than that but you get the idea
