Difference between CGI and PL

What is the difference between CGI and PL?

By this I mean you can get two filename extensions:

filename.cgi
and
filename.pl

Is there any difference in the language itself?

hmmm, cgi and perl use each other i.e php and mysql .. i think

martian2k4, the relationship between cgi and perl couldn't be more different than the relationship between php and mysql. mysql is a database!!!

lmao.. yeah thats a point... but i think he means that they can be used on conjunction with each other to create something more complex than what just one of them on their own can do...

I didn't mean like that but CGI uses PERL .... i didn't mean its a database

CGI is an interface for Perl. Perl is a programming language, and to send content to your browser (for example), you need the CGI gateway.

CGI is just a set of rules that says how one piece of software communicates with another piece of software, whereas Perl is a programming language. Any application can communicate with a webserver if it uses CGI and it's rules.
